But the main difference between Rippe’s “steroid-like” steroid was a mechanism of action similar to that of “prohormones.” Steroid-like steroids are found naturally in the body and have a stimulant effect that is very different from hormones. “This stimulant is produced naturally in the body through the effects of insulin and glucagon — both of which are produced and secreted to control body temperature, blood pressure, and other functions of the body,” Rippe wrote.
